Frank and Hugo spent two years growing their hair until they decided it was time for a chop. The two boys had the amazing idea of turning their haircut into a way to raise $1000 for Cure Cancer but they more than doubled their target!
Back in 2020, Frank and Hugo were unable to go to the hairdresser amidst the lockdown. They let their hair grow for two whole years into long golden locks. Early in 2022, however, they decided that they wanted a change and that they would turn their hairdressing trip into a fundraising campaign. From starting their Grassrootz page and through the support of friends and family, the boys managed to raise a whopping $2,328.03*.
We spoke to Frank and Hugo, and here's what they said:
WHAT INSPIRED YOU BOTH TO SHAVE YOUR HEADS AND RAISE MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH?
“We have had many loved ones that have battled cancer, and wanted to show our support for them and do what we could to help!”
WHAT DID YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY THINK OF YOU SHAVING YOUR HEADS?
“Everyone was really supportive and proud of us and they were all very encouraging. It has been a big change going from our long and curly hair back to really short, but we love it!”
DO YOU THINK OTHER KIDS CAN DO THIS TOO?
“We think that if you are up for it, everyone can do this (or something like it) and the best advice we can give is to have fun with it, be happy, and be strong.”
DO YOU HAVE ANY WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE RESEARCHERS?
“We hope that one day someone will find a cure and hope all the researchers keep working hard and being creative – you are all doing an awesome job!”
